A Wall Story: Einstein Tile to Natural Stone Wall

Skab Team has won 3rd award in the Amorphous Natural Stone Project and Design Competition with the idea of the repeatless pattern of Einstein Tile.

MONO reflects a concept developed by drawing inspiration from natural landscape forms. The fundamental idea of the design is based on the fact that no natural stone pattern or topography in nature is entirely identical. Each MONO tile possesses a design that mirrors the unique shapes and patterns found in nature as they come together. This design mimics the elevations of mountains, the meandering curves of rivers, the depths of valleys, and other topographical features. The source of inspiration for creating the form of the design is the "Einstein Tile," discovered by mathematicians. The Einstein Tile is a special geometric shape that means "single stone" and allows for the creation of patterns that never repeat itself. This shape is a thirteen-sided polygon, and when these polygons come together, they provide the opportunity to create non-periodic patterns. The Einstein Tile has been interpreted in three dimensions in the design. This approach preserves the unique structure of the thirteen-sided polygon in the plan view while bringing together three different faces with three different tiles in the section view to create a wall pattern. This method offers the possibility to play with limitless combinations. It takes inspiration from the endless variations found in natural landforms and translates them into a design that can be applied to various surfaces, bringing a harmonious blend of aesthetics and functionality.
